Update

Passover was excellent, J got a sweet fellowship, Nigeria project is fun, Voices is officially "go" for another two years, the garden is blooming and beautiful, and I'm heading to Nairobi Friday for a week of net campaign training (I'm doing the training! well, just the communication section).

We kicked off bbq season two weekends ago and did much salsa last weekend, in my new shoes which allow for turning and spinning at low low bargain rack prices. Everything is good, but there is a lot of work to be done in the next month.

Flood!

Water main break at my intersection today. Got to work to see a river extending 3 blocks from Market to Gay Street. Backup pumps were pumping non-potable water, so we were all sent home at noon.

Maple Granola

Melt 1/2 cup light brown sugar and 1/2 cup maple syrup in pan over low heat. Cool in a big bowl. Add 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp allspice, 1 tbl vanilla extract, 2 egg whites (or 1/2 cup oil), whisk. Add 3 cups rolled oats, 1 cup walnuts, 1/2 cut sunflower seeds, 1/2 cup coconut, handful of slivered/sliced almonds. Bake 20-35 minutes at 325. Turn and bake for 5-10. This all depends on whether your oven, like mine, is fueled directly from the fires of hell. Add raisins and/or cranberries.

More plants!

Just ordered lemongrass, mint, and artemisia annua (that's right, the herb in the most effective anti-malarial!). Lemongrass and mint for me and my mojitos, artemisia in little pots as presents for the Voices team (ssshhh!).

Leftover curry

Last night I had broccoli, mozzarella, goat cheese, tofu, crushed pineapple, 3/4 can of coconut milk in the fridge just crying out to me, EAT ME!

Unfortunately the cheeses and the pineapple lost out. I made a curry with some ginger, garlic and onion, chili powder and 1/4 jar of Thai green curry. Having no idea how to cook tofu, I fried it with the onion-garlic-ginger-curry mix for a little while, but probably not long enough. Then added the coconut milk whisked with a big spoonful of peanut butter, and threw in the broccoli, and steamed it a couple minutes. All while the rice was cooking.

It was supposed to also have some boiled peanuts and green onion, but oops - but still pretty good for a last-minute supper, plus I have two lunches for today and tomorrow.
